One night, skimming youtube, I caught a video about a family that had fled to the frozen north forests of Russia to escape religious persecution. There, they hid and lived isolated from society for over 50 years. They lived in a beautiful but dangerous place called the taiga. There was a feeling of raw wild-ness and beauty that captured me. The word TAIGA itself felt powerful and mysterious. I made a few paintings in response to this feeling, and Midnight on the Taiga is one of them.
